TOYNIMA and accessibility

Bigger text, less motion, your own keys and buttons: here is what the game does, and what it doesn't.

In the game: Options › Accessibility

The settings are in Options › Accessibility, from the main menu or from the pause.

  • Text size: Normal, Large, Extra large (twice the normal size). It enlarges the dialogue, the narrator, the signs and the help. At first, it follows your device's text size.
  • Reduce motion: no more shaking, sliding camera moves, zooms or flying confetti; cuts and fades instead. At first, it follows your device's setting.
  • Controls: change the keyboard keys and the controller buttons; “Aim” works by holding or by pressing twice. Button names follow your controller (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo).

Always on

  • Each player has a shape and a number (● 1, ▲ 2, ■ 3, ★ 4) as well as a colour.
  • Everything the Sandman says is written on screen, with his name, and stays long enough to be read.
  • Texts are high-contrast, and nothing flashes more than 3 times per second.
  • “Gentle mode” (Options › Gameplay): more hearts and slower bosses, for younger players. What it changes.

Your device's settings

At launch, and each time you come back to the game, TOYNIMA reads these accessibility settings of the device:

  • Reduce Motion;
  • Larger Text, on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV;
  • Increase Contrast.

A choice made in the game's Options comes before the device's.

What the game doesn't do

  • VoiceOver: the game is played by sight. With VoiceOver on, the touch controls still respond, and the menus are announced.
  • Voice Control and audio descriptions are not offered.
  • On Apple TV, a controller is needed to play (the Siri Remote is used for the menus). Which controllers?

And this site?

This site also follows your device's “Reduce Motion” setting: the sky stops twinkling and the home page video stays still. Images have alternative text, and a “Skip to content” link opens each page for keyboard users.
